Q. Do I need a Fire protected Store?

Answer: Yes, if the proposed location of your Store is deemed to be un safe, i.e. close to an Ignition source, Boundary, Occupied Building, Process Unit or Flammable Liquid Tank.(see table)

Atex Explained
The 99/92/EC Atex Workplace Directive became mandatory from July 1 2003.

It requires all employers who Store, Handle or Process Flammable materials to produce and Explosion Protection Document / Risk Assessment.

The workplace must be classified into Zones with ‘Ex’ Signs marking points of entry and Equipment used in these zones must comply with the 94/92/EC Atex Equipment Directive.

Specification

Storage cabinet design: Fixed, Heavy duty, open mesh Shelving fitted as standard.
2 shelves on each side wall (500mm deep x full length).
Adjustable Shelving available as an option. (See Options below).

Bund: Fully welded, leak tested, coated steel (3.0mm) Bund.

Optional Separate Bunds to segregate non compatible Chemicals.

Bunds tested before dispatch. Bund Test Certificate issued with Store.

(exceeds 110% and 25% guidelines, ref. EPA).

Construction: Store delivered to site fully assembled.

Heavy Duty, welded steel framework.

Finish: Corrosion resistant Polyurethane Paint Finish. Colour Red Ral 3020

Walls: External: Goosewing Grey PVC laminate(Plastisol).

Internal: White PVC laminate (stelvetite).

Fire Protection: One Hour Rated insulated composite Firewall panels (100mm thick) tested to BS476 part 22.

Test Results: Stability and Integrity: 110 minutes.

Insulation: 80 minutes.

Ventilation: One Hour Rated Intumescent ventilation panels fitted at high & low level on side walls. Optional Electrical Extractor(see below).

Floor: Galvanised Open mesh floor allows spilled liquids to pass into the Bund below.

Access/Security: Twin hinged, self closing Fire Door facilitates loading of Pallets.

Key operated Lock c/w internal Thumb Turn.

Signage: Safety / Warning Signs fitted to doors as standard.

Adjustable Shelving: Instead of fixed heavy duty Shelving.

Adjustable Steel Shelving Storage Bays. (915w x 460d x 1800h mm)

Fire Escape: Emergency Fire Escape Door c/w Panic Latch for Stores over 6.0m long. Fitted centrally on rear wall.

Anti-Static Protection: Anti Static Grounding Kit required if Flammable Chemicals are being transferred / dispensed in the Store.

Wall mounted Grounding Rail & 4 no. Bonding Cables.

‘Ex’ Rated / Atex approved Electrical Options for Flammable atmospheres.

Extractor: Roof mounted Ex rated Extractor (EExe II T3) providing a minimum 10 air changes per hour. 315mm diameter 360 watt, terminated at external junction box.

Frost Protection: 500 watt Ex Air Warmer (EExe II T3) c/w Thermostat control(Eexd IIC T6). Single Phase, terminated at external Junction Box.

Lighting: 1500mm Twin Fluorescent Light Fitting (EExd IIC T4) c/w Ex Switch, terminated at external Junction Box.
